PHNOM PENHyulgangcrypto, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia sent the 10th batch of 244 peacekeepers to join a United Nations (UN) peacekeeping operation in war-torn Central African Republic late on Friday.

Gen. Sem Sovanny, director-general of the National Center for Peacekeeping Forces, said the new batch would replace the ninth batch's forces who had completed a one-year mission there.

"The departure of our blue helmets to the Central African Republic today truly shows the UN's confidence in our ongoing contributions to upholding peace and stability in conflict-torn countries," he said at the send-off ceremony held at the Phnom Penh International Airport's VIP terminal.

Sovanny said the Cambodian multi-skill engineering forces will work on the construction of roads, bridges, air strips, electricity, campsites, and wells, among others.

He also advised them to strictly comply with UN rules and disciplines, the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces' code of ethics, and the host country's laws.

Cambodia first sent troops overseas on the UN peacekeeping missions in 2006.

So far, the country had dispatched a total of 9,570 peacekeepers to join UN peacekeeping missions in 10 conflict-torn countries, Sovanny said.

Currently, 627 Cambodian blue helmets still perform their peacekeeping missions in four countries, namely South Sudan, the Central African Republic, Lebanon, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, he added.
